Jiaxiang Chua

A: You will need to go through a special interview process (temuduga) to assess your suitability based on your experience.
Q3: When are the interview application deadlines for 2025?
Here are the important dates for applicants using work experience:

Q6: Is this path recognised by MOTAC?
A: Yes, this route is officially recognised by MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture) under their structured course implementation.
🪪Tourist Guide License vs Tour Leader – What’s the Difference?
Q1: What is the Tourist Guide License?
A: The Tourist Guide License is issued by MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia). It authorizes individuals to conduct guided tours within Malaysia, focusing on history, culture, and attractions. This license is mandatory for anyone who wants to guide tourists professionally in Malaysia.
Q2: Can I lead tours outside of Malaysia with this license?
A: While the Tourist Guide License is specifically for guiding within Malaysia, many licensed tourist guides are also hired as Tour Leaders for outbound tours. Travel agencies often recognize the Tourist Guide License as proof of professionalism and capability, especially for leading Malaysian groups overseas.
Q3: Does MOTAC issue a separate Tour Leader License?
A: No, MOTAC does not issue a separate Tour Leader License. Instead, outbound tour leaders are typically recruited based on their guiding experience, professionalism, and language ability—many of them hold the Tourist Guide License as a credential.
Q4: How can I become a Tour Leader for outbound tours?
A: Here’s how:
Complete the Tourist Guide Course and obtain your Inbound License
Gain experience guiding local tours
Network with licensed travel agencies and tour operators
Highlight your skills (e.g. multilingual ability, travel knowledge, people skills)
Be available and flexible to travel abroad with Malaysian tour groups
Q5: Is being a Tour Leader a long-term career option?
A: Yes! Many tour leaders go on to become travel planners, international trip coordinators, or even start their own tour brands. It’s a fulfilling career for those who love to travel and meet people from different cultures.
✅Am I Eligible to Apply for the Tourist Guide Course?
Q1: Am I eligible to apply for the Tourist Guide Course?
A: Yes, you may be eligible if you meet either one of the following:
Academic Qualification Route
Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above
Possess SPM or SKM L3 or higher qualification (Diploma/Degree)-MQA-recognized
Work Experience Route (Interview Path)
No formal academic qualification? No problem!
If you have relevant working experience in tourism/hospitality (e.g. hotel staff, travel agencies, e-hailing driver with tourist interactions), you can apply via interview-based admission (Temuduga)
Q2: I don’t have SPM, but I have a Diploma. Can I still join?
A: Yes, as long as your Diploma is recognized by MQA, you are eligible.
Q3: I have no formal certificate but have worked with tourists – can I still apply?
A: Yes! You may apply via the special interview process. If approved, you can join the full course like any other student.
Q4: I’m retired or in my 50s/60s – is there an age limit?
A: No age limit! As long as you’re physically fit, able to walk and speak confidently, you can pursue this career. Many successful guides started after retirement.
Q5: Can I apply if I only speak English or only Malay?
A: Yes. We offer classes in English, Malay, and Chinese – choose the language you’re most comfortable with.
Q6: I’m not sure if I qualify. What should I do?
A: Just contact us! We’ll help assess your qualifications and guide you through the next steps. You may also send us your certificates or resume for review.
🏷️What Does the Language on My Tourist Guide Badge Mean?
Q1: What is the “language” shown on my Tourist Guide badge?
A: It indicates the official language you are certified to guide in. This is based on the language you use during your Tourist Guide course and oral exam.
Q2: Why is the language printed on the badge important?
A: It helps tour operators and tourists know which language you are approved to conduct tours in. Guides with specific language endorsements are more likely to be matched with relevant tour groups, especially international guests.
Q3: Does it affect my job opportunities or pay?
A: Yes! Being certified to guide in high-demand languages such as Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean can lead to more bookings and higher income, especially during peak travel seasons.
Q4: Can I apply for more than one language at the same time?
A: ❌ No. You must choose one language only (e.g. English or Malay or Mandarin) when enrolling and sitting for the Tourist Guide course and exam. That language will be reflected on your badge.
Q5: How can I add more languages to my badge later?
A: ✅ After getting your license, you may apply to drop your “P” (Provisional) License with 4 days course then add another language at any time by registering for a language add-on oral exam with MOTAC.
❌ No need to retake the full course
❌ No limit on how many languages you can apply for
❌ No need for endorsement from other bodies – only the oral test is required
Q6: Is the language add-on exam difficult?
A: It’s an oral exam where you must demonstrate your ability to guide confidently and accurately in the new language. You will be evaluated on your fluency, accuracy of facts, and tour guiding skills in that language.
Q7: Can I add more languages later?
A: ✅ Yes, but only after you complete the Confirmation Course and drop your “P” (Provisional) License.
Here’s how it works:
Complete the full Tourist Guide Course
Attend and pass the Confirmation Course (4 days)
Once your license status is upgraded (P license dropped), you can apply to add additional languages
Sit for a MOTAC oral exam in the new language
Once passed, MOTAC will endorse the new language on your badge
Q8: Do I need to retake the whole course to add a language?
A: ❌ No. You don’t need to repeat the course. Just go for the oral language assessment only.
Q9: How many languages can I add?
A: 🟢 There is no limit. As long as you pass each oral test, MOTAC will endorse any number of additional languages to your badge.
🧠Common Concerns from Students & Parents
Q1: I’m shy and not confident speaking in front of others. Can I still become a tourist guide?
A: Yes! Confidence is a skill, not a requirement to start. Many students begin the course shy, and by the end, they’re leading tours with pride. Our training includes presentation practice, role play, and supportive coaching to help you grow naturally.
Q2: I’m already in my 40s or 50s. Is it too late to start this career?
A: Not at all! Many of our successful graduates are in their 50s and even 60s. As long as you’re healthy and mobile, your life experience, maturity, and storytelling are valuable assets in this profession.
Q3: I’m a parent—will my child be able to find a stable career as a tourist guide?
A: Yes. Tourism is one of Malaysia’s top economic sectors. Licensed guides have opportunities in freelance guiding, travel companies, cruise tours, events, and content creation. With growing tourism, the demand for certified guides continues to rise—especially multilingual ones.
Q4: Will I be able to earn a good living as a tourist guide?
A: Absolutely. While income depends on your language skills and availability, many full-time guides earn RM200–RM500/day or more, with flexible working hours. It’s also a low-stress job with high job satisfaction compared to typical 9–5 roles.
Q5: What if I’m not good in history or geography?
A: No problem! We’ll guide you step-by-step. You’ll learn what’s relevant to tourists—not school-style memorizing. It’s about storytelling, passion, and engaging people, not textbook knowledge.
Q6: My English is not perfect. Will I struggle?
A: Not at all. We welcome guides in English, Malay, or Chinese. What matters most is your ability to connect with your audience, not perfect grammar. Confidence and willingness to learn are key.
Q7: Is this job safe, especially for women?
A: Yes. Most guides work with registered tour companies or reputable agencies. You can choose the jobs that suit you—day tours, hotel meetups, or company bookings—and many female guides feel empowered and independent in this field.
Q8: What if I fail the course or exam?
A: Don’t worry! You’ll have support throughout the course. If needed, you can retake the exam, and we offer extra coaching and confirmation courses to help you succeed. Many who didn’t pass the first time went on to become excellent guides later.
Q9: I’m not tech-savvy. Will the online classes be hard for me?
A: Not at all. Our team provides step-by-step guidance on how to join Zoom, use digital materials, and interact during class. If you can use WhatsApp, you can join our course.
🎓Why Do College & University Students Join the Tourist Guide Course Part-Time?
Q1: I’m still studying at a college/university. Can I take this course part-time?
A: ✅ Yes! Many students enrol part-time with us while pursuing their diploma or degree. Our class schedule is flexible (online, evenings, and weekends), making it suitable for students.
Q2: Why are students interested in becoming licensed tourist guides while still in school?
A: Students join for several reasons:
📘 Real-world experience outside the classroom
💼 Freelance job opportunities even before graduating
💬 Practice communication and language skills
🌍 Gain exposure to tourism, culture, and people skills
🪪 Earn a professional license early that stays with them for life
🧭 Build confidence, leadership, and independence
Q3: Will this help with my future career?
A: Absolutely! Whether you plan to work in tourism, hospitality, events, media, or even entrepreneurship, being a licensed tourist guide shows:
✅ You are trained, responsible, and certified by a government agency (MOTAC)
✅ You can handle public speaking, planning, and people management
✅ You have practical skills that complement your academic qualification
Q4: Can I start working right after I get the license?
A: Yes! Once you complete the course and pass the confirmation exam, you’ll be eligible to work with travel agencies, as a freelancer, or even part-time during semester breaks.
Q5: Is this course suitable if I don’t study tourism?
A: Yes! You can come from any field — business, communication, IT, education, etc. Tourist guiding is about people skills, not just tourism knowledge. We train you from the ground up.
