Malaysia is introducing 21 new international flight routes from December 2025 through mid-January 2026 as part of preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, according to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The new services comprise 16 scheduled flights and 5 charter flights operated by 10 airlines, connecting Malaysia with destinations across ASEAN, East Asia, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka. Together they add 81 direct flights to Malaysia per week, with capacity for up to 13,936 passengers. The routes connect nine Malaysian airports, including Kuala Lumpur, Subang, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, Ipoh and Langkawi.
Separately, the ministry reported that visitor spending had surged 174% to RM161.9 billion, with tourism contributing 15% to national GDP — a 7.4% increase over 2023, citing the Tourism Satellite Account 2024 report.
