Melaka Overland Trip

From 13 to 15 March 2026, GIT Academy Tourist Guide Course students embarked on a 3-day, 2-night overland training trip through Melaka and Port Dickson, led by trainer Dr Samantha Yap. Throughout the journey, students repeatedly practised live commentary at each stop — the core skill the trip was designed to build.

Day 1: Historic Melaka

The group departed GIT Academy early, with students practising their presentation skills along the way. The day’s stops included St Peter’s Church, considered one of the oldest Catholic churches in Malaysia (built in 1710) and home to a prized antique bell dating to 1608; Bukit China, one of the oldest Chinese cemeteries outside China, including the historic “King’s Well”; the Dutch Square area; and the Hard Rock jetty, known for street performers and mural photo spots. After lunch, students walked through Jonker Street, where they met a local pianist performing on an antique piano, before visiting the Melaka Submarine Museum. The day closed with a scenic Dragon Yacht river cruise (more commentary practice along the water), dinner at Nyonya Lin’s Kitchen — noted for its award-winning cendol — and check-in at Hallmark Leisure Hotel.

Day 2: Local Heritage, Honey and Port Dickson

The second day began with a walking tour through Melaka’s old town, where a local heritage guide shared the history and origins of the city. After lunch, the group travelled toward Port Dickson, practising commentary en route, with a stop at Seribu Bunga Sdn Bhd, a bee farm where students learned about the health benefits of honey while continuing to practise their guiding delivery. The afternoon included a visit to a Port Dickson eco park, before checking in for the night at Avillion Admiral Cove.

Day 3: Coastal Conservation and Reflection

The final day began with a beach clean-up followed by a boat trip around Tanjung Tuan, where students learned about how boat tour packages are put together. After checking out, the group had lunch in Serdang before visiting Farm in the City to round out the trip, wrapping up at 4:30pm.

Students extended their thanks to Dr Samantha Yap for organising the trip and to the principal for joining them along the way. The trainer’s post-trip debrief and feedback gave students concrete pointers for continuing to sharpen their commentary and guiding delivery — capping off a trip students described as thoroughly rewarding.
