Effective Coach Commentary Training

On 23 July 2026, GIT Academy Tourist Guide Course students took part in an Effective Coach Commentary Training session, led by trainer Mr Eddie Chok. The session focused on a skill every tourist guide relies on but few masters without practice: delivering clear, engaging commentary to a group of passengers while on the move.

Training covered coach commentary and passenger engagement, storytelling techniques suited to a moving coach, managing the flow and pacing of commentary over a route, proper microphone technique, delivering a clear safety briefing, and structuring route commentary so passengers stay engaged from one landmark to the next.

As part of the session, students stopped at the gates of Istana Negara, Malaysia’s National Palace — a landmark commonly featured on Kuala Lumpur city tours and a good example of a stop requiring both accurate factual commentary and genuine national pride when presenting it to visitors.

Skills like microphone technique and commentary pacing rarely get the attention they deserve in guide training, but they’re often what separates a forgettable tour from a memorable one. Sessions like this give GIT Academy students real practice with the on-the-move delivery skills they’ll rely on throughout their guiding careers.
