AirAsia Drone & GIT Academy Announce Strategic Partnership to Elevate Tourist Guide Training and Safety Culture in Malaysia

SEPANG, 25 September 2024 — AirAsia Drone proudly announces its latest collaboration with GIT Academy, one of Malaysia’s largest and most established MOTAC-licensed tourism training institutions. This partnership marks an exciting new chapter aimed at equipping Malaysia’s licensed tourist guides with essential drone knowledge, enhanced safety awareness, and future-ready skills.

For over two decades, GIT Academy has successfully trained more than 10,000 licensed tourist guides, supporting the industry with highly skilled professionals who serve visitors from around the world. Through this partnership, GIT Academy will collaborate with AirAsia Drone, Malaysia’s first CAAM-certified Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), to offer certified drone competency programmes tailored for tourism professionals.

As drone usage becomes increasingly popular for tourism, aerial photography, and content creation, it is crucial for guides to operate drones safely, legally, and responsibly. This collaboration reinforces the importance of:

  • Legal compliance in drone operations

  • Public and airspace safety

  • Professional upskilling for licensed tourist guides

  • Adopting modern digital tools for tourism storytelling

The training will ensure that GIT Academy graduates are well-versed in CAAM regulations, industry best practices, and safe drone operations — helping them meet the growing demand for high-quality tourism photography and videography.

AirAsia Drone representatives highlighted that untrained recreational drone users pose major safety risks, and this partnership ensures that trained tourism professionals can lead the industry with proper knowledge and responsible practice.

Through the collaboration, GIT Academy students will be able to enrol in certified CAAM programmes, including:

  1. Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency – Basic (RCoC-B)

  2. Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency – Module 1 (EVLOS)

  3. Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency – Module 2 (AGR)

  4. Certified Safety Management System (SMS)

  5. Drone Photography – Basic, Intermediate, Advanced

  6. Drone Videography – Basic, Intermediate, Advanced

Since 2022, AirAsia Drone has certified over 700 licensed drone pilots, further solidifying its leadership in Malaysia’s drone education ecosystem.

Krishan Raj, Head of AirAsia Drone, stated:
“We are proud to collaborate with Malaysia’s leading tourist guide academy to bring drone safety and legal compliance to the public. This partnership ensures that tourism professionals are equipped with the right knowledge to operate drones responsibly, supporting a safer and more progressive industry.”

Kenny Khan, Founder & Principal of GIT Academy, said:
“We are excited to partner with AirAsia Drone to provide advanced drone operation and safety skills to our guides. This reflects our commitment to continuously evolve our training programmes to meet the needs of the tourism industry.”
