Cameron Highlands Trip

On 23 June 2026, GIT Academy Tourist Guide Course students headed up to Cameron Highlands for a hands-on nature and agro-tourism trip, led by trainer Dr Samantha Yap, swapping the city classroom for jungle trails, working farms, and rolling tea plantations.

The undoubted highlight of the day was a jungle trek to see Rafflesia in full bloom — the world’s largest flower, and one of Malaysia’s most remarkable natural attractions. Kitted out in proper trekking gear, students made their way through the forest to encounter this rare parasitic flower up close, a sighting that isn’t guaranteed on any given day given how unpredictable Rafflesia blooms are.

Students also visited a working vegetable farm on the highlands’ terraced slopes, walking the growing rows beneath the region’s signature greenhouse tunnels and getting a firsthand look at how Cameron Highlands supplies fresh produce across Malaysia. The day continued with a stop at a tea plantation, where students relaxed over tea and cake with sweeping views across the tea-covered hills — a classic Cameron Highlands experience, and one every guide should be able to speak to from personal experience.
