KL Cultural Heritage Walk

On 23 November 2025, GIT Academy Tourist Guide Course students took part in a Kuala Lumpur Cultural Heritage Walk, led by trainer Ms Yap PY, with 18 students and staff taking part.

The day began with a traditional breakfast at Ho Kow Tea House, with the group assembling at 8:30am before setting off on a walking tour through Kuala Lumpur’s cultural and historical landmarks, in sequence:

• Chan See Shu Yuen – learning about early Chinese clan associations and how their cultural heritage has been preserved
• Sikh Temple (Gurdwara) – understanding Sikh religious traditions and community culture
• Kwai Chai Hong – experiencing this restored heritage laneway’s creative transformation and old-town character
• Sri Maha Mariamman Temple – an in-depth look at Hindu faith and temple architecture
• Guan Di Temple – learning about loyalty and righteousness in Chinese folk belief
• Sin Sze Si Ya Temple – exploring local folk religion and its historical stories
• Kuala Lumpur City Gallery – gaining a systematic understanding of KL’s founding history and urban development (students were given complimentary entry)

The heritage walk concluded at 1:00pm.

Through a half-day of real, on-the-ground exploration, students gained a deeper, more accessible understanding of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage and traced Kuala Lumpur’s history from its founding to the present day. Encountering these living pieces of cultural heritage firsthand gave students a genuine appreciation for how different communities have shaped the Kuala Lumpur we know today — exactly the kind of first-hand knowledge a professional tourist guide needs to bring a city’s story to life for visitors.
